Verden: Beyond the Gate
Suddenly Nick was standing in a square room, alone. He began to fear, Where was everybody else? he wondered. He decided that he needed to find them, and in order to do that he would have to move on. So he went to the only door in the room, he gripped his crowbar tightly in both hands. He opened the door and assumed a defensive position, there was nothing on the other side.
He looked at a long corridor, torches lined both walls. There were what appeared to be places for pictures, but only one picture was on the wall. Nick examined the picture carefully; there was a man with red hair in heavy armor leaning up against a tree, he was looking up into the sky. There was some kind of black shape in the sky. Do I know who that is? he wondered, after a little deliberation, he moved on. Carefully proceeding down the hallway. If the next room is not lit, I can take one of the torches from the wall.
He came to the next door and once again prepared the crowbar. Sweat dripping from his hands and face, he opened the door. In front of him was a room, in the room was a man. The man resembled the one from the picture in the corridor, he did not seem to notice Nick. Nick debated on whether or not he could take the man, judging by his situation and the look of the man, he decided he couldn’t. “Um….Hey.” Nick said to the man, making himself known. “Oh! Hi!” The man said, noticing Nick. “It sure did take you a long time to get here.” Through the ensuing conversation, Nick determined that the man was waiting for Nick. The man did not know why, and would not reveal his name to Nick, but the man was supposed to help Nick get through the dungeon. The man gave Nick a box, inside the box was gear. Nick got a belt pouch, scroll case, and a chain shirt for armor. Beneath all of this, was another large box. When Nick opened the box there was a giant sword inside. The man proceeded to teach Nick how to don armor and then to use the giant sword. After a quick lesson, which Nick caught on to pretty well, the man said it was time to progress. The man told Nick that if he needed any help that all he had to do is ask and the man would help Nick. Nick nodded and then went to open the next door. He felt a little better at this point, now that he wasn’t “naked” as per D&D terms and unarmed.
Behind the next door was another hallway, identical to the one Nick had previously come through. He lead the man down the hallway and to the next door.
Behind the next door was an identical room to the previous two, and there were four creatures. Nick, using his D&D knowledge determined they were some kind of zombie-kobold type creatures.
